Tulips,Jewels of the Garden!

Image
The frilly variety! I always think of Tulips as being the CanCan girls' of the Garden and people seem to either love them or hate them for their overblown extravagances. I have to say I fall into the love them category. It's that riot of sheer cheerful colour coming soon after the dull greyness of our long winter days that lifts my spirits to do a little dance of joy when I wander down the garden and see them.   Rich and deep two tone Opening up to show themselves off deep jewel crimson Just over our house a buzzard in the thermals sweet scented violas and Acer tree poppies and borage growing from seed One of my lovely Auriculas No shortage of Bees here Goldfinches in the Ash trees The side of the garage done to give it a bright Spanish look The resident song thrush singing at Dusk.   The garden has been alive with so many birds this week, the blackbird seems to have successfully raised at least two young ...

Well how nice to see some spring weather and all the more welcome after returning from our weeks holiday in sunny Spain.                  While we were away the garden  had really burst into an abundance of spring colour and I spent a day out there putting in more plants and sweeping a generally tidying up. Spring in my garden is the nicest season, it's the freshness of all the colours whereas later they all begin to look faded and a little bit jaded. I grabbed the camera and walked down the garden to see what was coming up and thought I'd just share a few pictures of them on here. Hope to get out more but it looks like its getting a bit chilly again later in the week. The other photos were taken on our holiday. T

A New Arrival and Spring is in the air!

Well I'm a Nan , my first Grandchild, a little boy has arrived into the world and is a lovely little bundle of joy. It's beeen lovely picking out some presents for him , wrapping them up and taking them round to his proud parents. The circle begins again and I think back to when my mum and dad became Grandparents at exactly the same age as I am now. I remember mum was so thrilled and would cuddle the baby at every chance. He was an Easter Baby arriving on Good Friday and also on his Great Grandmas 88th Birthday,a very easy birthday to remember I think! Easter was a chance for me to make a little Easter tree for a lovely little girl I know and she was very happy to see I had piled it high with little chocolate money and eggs! Gifts for the new baby , from us and my dearest friend Pat Tulips in the spot where we laid Tom our cat to rest in November Beautiful snowdrops in the garden Busy in the greenhouse  The bad weather  has delay...

Dove Cottage,Spring and My Cats.

How delicious to have a little taste of Spring this week. I couldn't wait to get out and enjoy it just as much as Ginger and Bebe did ,finding the warm sunny spots and soaking up the rays. My enjoying it did entail grabbing the cutters and spade and doing a big garden clear up but it was great to be out and the end results were well worth it! I even managed to get Peter to cut down some overgrown hedge to let in light again at the bottom of the garden. I sowed some sweet peas and plan to sow a few more things this weekend, its just a shame that it is getting chilly again. Hopefully not for much longer though. Bebe is on Prednisolone to see if he will go into a sort of remission , if it allows him a little longer of reasonable quality life to enjoy a few more sunny days as he has this week then it will have been worth it! We bought a new camera Nikon coolpix p510, which has a great zoom and much better macro so I am hoping to have fun with  that over the coming summer. ...
