Winter in Keswick.

I thought I would share some of the view around Keswick that I took when we were up there earlier this year. The snow on the top fells had  been melting and making its way down the waterfalls and streams and came in a tremendous rushing ,frothing ,foaming torrent into the River Greta that flows through Keswick.
The banks soon became emerged under the rapid like water and if anyone had fallen in they could easily have been swept along. The noise was quite deafening I had never seen the river in such a state as usually it is in the calm at the end of summer when I visit.
Down By the Lakeside the jetty  was submerged as the lake water was very high and it had a really different feel to the holiday season when there are so many people milling around or queuing to take a boat ride around the lake. It was quiet, peaceful and atmospheric and I enjoyed photographing the play of light and clouds across the water, a forever changing scene.

    Lovely views and photographs of Keswick, Sis. You have a way of capturing the feeling in the photographs, I could easily have been there with you your shots are very atmospheric. I love the main one with the bird at the very top of the tree against the winter background. I also like the b&w jetty shot.

Nella Last's home in Barrow from where  she wrote her wartime diaries. How time flies, can it really be a week since we returned from a short break up in the Lake District. The weather could not have been better and we made the most of the glorious sunshine and clear blue skies and explored the area around Ulverston and Barrow. I have been reading and throughly enjoying the wartime diaries of Nella Last,a lady who wrote for the Mass Observation project set up in WW2. She was real character and her diaries are so entertaining to pick up and immerse yourself into. This lovely display stand was a birthday present from my other half and it needed filling with lovely spring flowers so it was a good excuse to drive over to our favourite garden centre at the weekend and stock up... not that I needed an excuse if you know me! They were displaying all of the beautiful spring bulbs and so many gorgeous Primulas that  I was spoilt  for choice. I just love spring flowers, they are so joyful on the eye. Bought this lovely Frittillia My new Vase Every colour under the sun! As soon as the sun shines at this time of year I love wandering around the flower borders  to see what has appeared,I found  yellow crocus, red tulips, various daffodils coming out, clumps of snowdrops and hyacinths. The robin was bathing in the bird bath , the woodpidgeon gorging on the seed, for a few minutes I could pretend all was well in the world! I've been in Spring cleaning mode all week,washing curtains , cleaning windows and generally clearing out....

The Scent of Christmas

Its beginning to' smell a lot like Christmas' at our house, for as soon as you walk in your senses are awoken by the fragrant scents of cinnamon , cloves and orange and everyone wants to know where that delicious smell is coming from ! Well actually although I would like to say I have been busy baking,it is actually from a lovely bottle of room spray. It does the most wonderful job of making the feel of the Chistmas season come alive . Add to that a few drops of Culpepper winter oil ,pot purri and that is all you need. When you come home in the evening though feeling a little cold, tired and frazzled, try some of the delicious Mulled wine, warmed up ,its good for you as its full of lovely spices , just the thing to sip in front of the fire!The one seen here is the real thing from Germany and the one served at the winter fairs.
