Beatrix Potters Rainbow

 Sis and I spent 3 days last week
enjoying the quietness of Bowness and Windermere that the Autumn season brings to the Lakes now
the crowds have returned to their home towns and are no doubt on the countdown to the festive season.
What a wonderful Autumn of colour we have  had this year and on our second day we walked from Windermere to Far Sawrey which was the Home of Beatrix Potter for many years .
The woods were lush with the beautiful leaves and mosses ,berries and birds and we only saw a couple of people on our whole afternoon out.
After a well earned lunch, which was delicious, at the Tower Bank arms we emerged to be greeted with one of the most scenic views we have ever witnessed of a rainbow ... a perfect way to leave such a pretty place.

I have been reading and throughly enjoying the wartime diaries of Nella Last,a lady who wrote for the Mass Observation project set up in WW2. She was real character and her diaries are so entertaining to pick up and immerse yourself into. Fieldfare and a visit from Jack!

With the ground being so hard after the recent snow and ice I threw down some of the apples I had been storing from our tree since October. That was yesterday and today the fieldfare flew in and spent the day gorging himself on the them. We just about managed a few shots, as he was very shy and the magpies kept bothering him, trying to get to the fruit as well. I wonder is it the same one who came at this time last year? Jack Frost came too and left us a beautiful vision in ice painting on the gate . I well remember scenes like that from my childhood but then it was on the inside of our bedroom windows at Corton! It is a very good time for birdwatching , today I saw Goldfinches as well. Most of our snow has gone but we may not be out of the woods yet as another weather front of snow and low temperatures is on the way.

The Green eyed cat on the green furry mat!

Just thought I would share these photos of our cat Ollie who was so so happy that I put the fire on when  I got back from the shops this afternoon . It was a nice sunny morning and then suddenly all change and it went gloomy and chilly and breezy! Still these kind of days can make you get on with some  jobs you have been putting off for a while and that's  what I did, I cleared the study! Yesterday  while out shopping I found the cutest little Christmas decorations ,the little deer and trees you see in the pictures above . Best of all they were only 99p a packet and they are the only additions to my stock of decorations that I intend to make this year, as I have enough! I usually love this time of year, the preparation leading up to the festivities but with mum lying so ill and increasingly frail I fear that this Christmas will see us going through the motions and thats about all .
